about kat

A 2021 graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in Biomolecular Science and a minor in Writing, Kat is incredibly excited about the intersection of her two passions in the field of narrative medicine. Aspiring to soon attend medical school, she is working towards developing her own skills in narrative competence and close reading in her time prior to matriculating. She hopes to carry these tools into the next chapter of her education, and actively use her passion for writing to reinforce the meaning of her work. While the project on this website was originally inspired by a capstone for the Sweetland Writing Center, Kat will be using this platform to document stories rooted in narrative medicine as she proceeds further in her education and her career.

Outside of her time writing, Kat works with the non-profit organization Michigan Movement to assist members of the Ann Arbor community experiencing homelessness, is a research assistant with the Translational Tissue Modeling Laboratory, and volunteers with the Hospital Elder Life Program at Michigan Medicine. She spends her free time running and hiking outdoors, loves testing out new recipes (especially for banana bread), and tries to travel as much as she can.
